Artwork Description:
The artist created this painting based on a photograph taken during his trip to Germany. It features the Interior of a gallery at Rudolstadt Castle, with a young woman looking at Henry Matisse's paintings and landscapes (which were actually absent in Rudolstadt, whose gallery featured only medieval German historical landscapes) on the gallery walls. The woman is a close friend of the artist, a Belarus-born painter and an arts educator. The colors of this composition are warm ocher and silverfish grays, together with the brown-black accent of her dress. Gallerist Steve Hoffman so liked this scene that he agreed to put Nicholaas Chiao's paintings in his booth at the Affordable Art Fair in New York in 2006. Mr. Hoffman sold 4 large paintings for nearly USD 20.000 - a serious success for a young artist.
