Artwork Description:
This painting was created by the artist on the basis of a photograph taken during his travel to Germany. It features the Interior of a gallery of Rudolstadt Castle with a young woman looking at Henry Matisse's paintings and landscapes (Henry Matisse paintings were actually absent in Rudolstadt, whose gallery featured only medieval German historical landscapes) on gallery walls. The woman is a close friend of the artist, a Belarus-born paintress, and an arts educator. The colors of this composition are warm ocher and silverfish grays, together with the brown-black accent of her dress. This scene was so liked by gallerist Steve Hoffman, that he agreed to put Nicholaas Chiao paintings in his booth at the Affordable Art Fair in New York in 2006. 4 large paintings were sold for nearly USD 20.000 - a serious success for a young artist.
