Artwork Description:
This compositional sketch is the largest version of the Presence cycle paintings. To produce it, the artist combined two previous canvases into a single image. This painting beautifully merges art and life, as the figurative scenes of old masters on the walls are mirrored in the glorious costumes and poses of the crowd, the museum's audience. The colors used here are burnt umber for the backgrounds and multicolored accents on the crowd's clothing.
