This composition is a Jan Vermeer-inspired exercise in figurative painting. It depicts a middle-aged man yawning near a wealthy, decorated table with a fruit-and-vegetable meal. The composition, as usual for Nicholaas Chiao, is dominated by black, with splashes of creamy white and red ocher to model the surface of the fruits and the figure of man.
