Artwork Description:
The Watchers in the Darkness was created after the exhibition Time and Measures. It features figures of a man and several women talking and staring into the black nothingness around them. The composition was narrowly influenced by the occasion of another artist, who produced scenes in a similarly contemporary photorealist style with a similar subject- it was Tim Eitel, a Leipzig, Germany painter, 10 years older than Chiao, whose exhibition, Center of Gravity at Pace Gallery, Nicholaas Chiao visited in the autumn of 2007.
